Hyperthaumaturgical degradation (shortened HTD) is a term to describe the physical damage inflicted on the human brain after extended or intense exposure to magic.[1] The most common exposure event is a user overusing the magic inherent to their own body. However, HTD can also occur from exposure to an intense exterior magical event such as Sequestration. The term HTD, and that of its progressive state hyperthaumaturgical necrosis, are attributed to Dr. Abdul Haqq Walid.
Clinical Manifestation[]
Dr. Jennifer Vaughan describes the early stages of HTD as consistent with the damage incurred with physical needlesticks to the brain.[2]
Fatalities Associated with HTD[]
- Antonin Bobet suffered from an advanced form of HTD, called hyperthaumaturgical necrosis.[3]
- Albert Woodville-Gentle died as a result of an unspecified cerebrovascular event, likely as a complication of his previous HTD-related stroke during his duel with Lady Helena in 1979.[3]
- Christina Chorley died from an intracerebral hemorrhage resulting from a high dose of para-Methoxyamphetamine and HTD-related weakening of the blood vessels in her brain.[2]
- Tony Harden died of HTD.[4]
- Nightingale refers to a high number of HTD-related fatalities during Night Witch (Nochnye Koldunyi) training in the USSR.[5]
