The Right Honourable Caroline Linden-Limmer is the adopted daughter of Helena Linden-Limmer. Although she appears in Broken Homes, her true identity is not revealed until The Hanging Tree. Her goal is to learn to fly with magic.[1]

Caroline is the only one of Lady Helena's children that still lives at home.[1] Her mother, Lady Helena Linden-Limmer, states that Caroline works for the family business of 'helping people bring balance to their lives'.[1] Caroline lives at least part of the time with Grace Yutani, Grand Master of the Sons of Weyland, in Glossop.[2]

Characteristics[]

She favors tailored blazers and is over 6 feet tall. She has a pilot's license and enjoys Manchester tarts.[1]

Adoption[]

She may be of Somali descent. Peter Grant meets her on the premises of County Gard he describes her as 'the tallest Somali woman I had ever seen', however she is slow to respond to DS Guleed in spoken Somali.[1][3]

Gender Recognition[]

She received a gender recognition certificate changing her legal gender from male to female when she was 18 years old.[1]

First Meeting with the Folly[]

Her first meeting with the Folly was when she posed as a cleaner while investigating the (then abandoned) offices of County Gard.[3] Peter noticed she was wearing a fine purple silk hijab, but it is unknown if this was part of her disguise or daily wear.[1]

Magical Abilities[]

Artist's depiction of Caroline in Harrods.[4]

Nightingale describes her magical form as 'very clean' and estimates she has been practicing magic under the tutelage of her mother since she was a child.[1] She has demonstrated a 'smoke rope' which acts like a magical lasso made of smoke when she chased Dean Miller through Harrod's.[1]

She is also capable of bending tree branches without damaging them to form a hide, and 'almost flying' which allows her to jump and drop great distances without any supports or injury.[1] She uses the last two spells to rescue Peter Grant and Sahra Guleed at Martin Chorley's home.

Her magic follows the matrilineal tradition of British magic and has a different signare than Peter's and Nightingale. It is described as the hot wind of the dessert, candle wax, and hyacinth.[1]

Flying[]

Her magical goals are centered around teaching herself to fly with magic.[1] Caroline does not seem interested in the pathology of magic like her mother. She asks Peter not to inform her mother about the 'almost flying' and her reasons for this request are unknown.[1]

Amongst Our Weapons[]

In Amongst Our Weapons, she pursued and almost caught Lesley May, who was trying to steal an enchanted lamp from the Archive of the Sons of Weyland. Caroline used an "assisted jump" to get close, and a spell called a tangle to trip her. When that proved to be not enough, she used a formae called radiradi to create a thunderclap. This thunderclap affected the lamp and accidentally freed Francisca Velasco.[2]
